Penang, 1 December 2022 – The holiday spirit is once again in full swing at the Eastern & Oriental (E&O) Hotel as guests came together for an early Christmas celebration after a two year hiatus.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the E&O had to cancel their annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony for the past two years.

So, the return of the much anticipated event which has established itself as the star of Penang’s festive traditions was very well received.

Excitement filled the air as hotel guests, business associates and Penang’s community mingled with each other around the magnificent six-metre tall tree featuring assorted shiny Christmas ornaments.

Hotel general manager Alison Fraser said this year’s event is more memorable as people can socialise together again.

“It has always been a joy to celebrate the lighting ceremony with everyone here at the hotel and not having the chance to do so for the past two years made it feel like something was missing,” she said.

Guests spent the night exchanging pleasantries with drinks and canapes while listening to Christmas carols performed by the Penang Philharmonic Orchestra.
