Penang, 17 November 2017 – The Eastern & Oriental Hotel (E&O Hotel) had the honour of hosting the Prince of Wales, Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall,
during the royal couple’s official visit here.
Their Royal Highnesses arrived at the luxury heritage hotel around 9pm on Nov 6 to be greeted by E&O group hospitality and lifestyle director Michael Saxon and his team.
Hotel guests and staff members were in awe as they witnessed the arrival of the royal couple, who greeted them and shook their hands.
Saxon said it was an honour to be able to serve the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall on their maiden trip to Penang.
“We were delighted when we first received news that Their Royal Highnesses have decided to stay with us, providing us the opportunity to offer them our E&O Hotel hospitality.
“We are also privileged to be the venue of choice for the Sandhurst Alumni Reception at the 1885 restaurant on Nov 7 evening,” he said.
During their stay in Penang, the British royals visited a number of places in the heritage enclave where they engaged with the locals. Among the places they visited were the St George Church, Kapitan Keling Mosque, Han Jiang Ancestral Temple and Sri Mahamariamman Temple.
Prince Charles also paid a visit to the Sun-Yat Sen Museum, the World Fish Centre and the Royal Malaysian Air Force in Butterworth while his wife Camilla enjoyed a cultural show at the Teochew Puppet and Opera House before ending their official schedule here at the Penang Peranakan Museum Reception.
